Ever since it was unveiled, I’ve always wondered what it’s for. I mean, come on, the Sony PFR-V1 headphones aren’t even headphones—they’re “Personal Field Speakers,” or in other words, speakers which disguise themselves as headphones…or something like it.
These Sony PFR-V1 Personal Field Speakers do have a band which could fit on your head, but instead of earpieces, you get small speakers near your ears. I reckon it’s great for occasions when you’re with friends and everyone wants to listen to some music; that way, you won’t have to bring portable speakers with your media player. But honestly, with the way this thing looks, I’d go for the portable speakers anytime. The fact that it isn’t wireless and that it costs around US$600 are definitely setbacks too. As strange and impractical these might look like, they’d still surely have audience too. So, Sony is actually releasing the PFR-V1 Personal Field Speakers in Australia on September, so all headphone-haters could have an alternative.
