If Nokia has “Comes with Music” music downloading service, then Sony Ericsson has Play Now Plus. In this era where consumers are interested in more than just the looks of a phone, services such as this could provide mobile phone companies some boost in sales that they need.
Sony Ericsson’s Play Now Plus will features songs from the big four recording companies. It’s an unlimited downloading service, although it seems a part of the target 5 million songs to be offered won’t be DRM-free. After a user’s contract (between 6 to 18 months) ends and the user opted not to renew, Sony Ericsson only allows 300 DRM-free songs to be kept. By comparison, Nokia Comes with Music allows you to keep all the songs you downloaded throughout your contract. At least it’s better than Vodafone’s MusicStation that doesn’t allow you to keep any music at all. Sony Ericsson Play Now Plus will launch in Sweden for a price of US$15 per month, to roll out globally by the second quarter of 2009.
