Sensis Yellow Pages to Integrate with Google Maps Australia

Telstra subsidiary Sensis just got hitched with Google. First, Sensis kills off its search engine completely and would, from now on, integrate Google’s search engine for the web site. Thankfully, there will be no layoffs as a result from the integration, but it would slash costs on Sensis’ part.

Second, Sensis will be integrating its Yellow Pages business listings into Google Maps Australia. That means if businesses advertise on any of Sensis’ services (Yellow Directory, Yellow Online, Yellow Mobile or telephone service 1234), they will now be listed on Google’s search engine and Google distribution. While Sensis’ owned Whereis.com compete with Google Maps though, it will not be axed and will continue to run as it is right now.

Hi, I work for Sensis and thought it necessary to chime in following your comment about Sensis killing off its search engine. Yes, Google will power the Sensis search engine providing access to Google’s world class search results. No, it is not being killed off. The real story behind the agreement is the value it provides buyers and sellers- Yellow business listings on Google Maps is a great move for both advertisers and consumers.

And you’re right, Whereis.com will not be axed. Sensis’ Whereis business is a major digital mapping business in Australia through its online site whereis.com, its Whereis Mobile property, as well as through its position as the major supplier of digital maps to the portable and in-car satellite navigation industry. It is a highly successful and competitive business and remains a key part of Sensis’ portfolio.
