Last September, SanDisk unveiled its slotMusic microSD cards to the public—these are 1GB microSD cards that come preloaded with DRM-free music. A follow-up to the cards themselves is the SanDisk Sansa slotMusic Player.
SanDisk describes the player as the “easiest MP3 player for loading and listening to music on the go” and you’d have to wonder why. After all, the slotMusic is an ordinary microSD card you can load onto existing media players and mobile phones. It’s not as if it’s a special type of storage that can only be played by a type of gadget. There’s really no reason to shell out money for a device that’s meant to play the slotMusic microSD cards even if it’s just $20. I bet the targets for this are people who don’t realize they already have existing gadgets that can read microSD cards or the equally clueless. On a similar note, SanDisk unveiled the full lineup of artists whose works would be available on slotMusic microSD cards.
