I’m not sure why there hasn’t been fanfare around its launch, but it looks like Samsung really did come out with a second 8-megapixel camera phone after INNOV8. Named the Samsung M8800 Pixon, this 8-MP camera phone was spotted across the pond in Russia.
The Samsung M8800 Pixon isn’t a smartphone—it’s a mobile phone with a 3.2-inch full-faced touch screen display and comes with a virtual, NOT a physical, QWERTY keyboard. The M8800 is a quad-band GSM, tri-band HSDPA phone that has built-in GPS receiver and weather and Google widgets. Bluetooth connection and microSD card slot are a given. It also has FM radio and DiVX playback capability. The 8-megapixel camera has all the works—auto-focus, face, smile, and blink detection, geotagging, and 30fps video recording.
The Samsung M8800 Pixon will be available by November for around US$800. Check out the official video ad below. For sample images taken by Pixon, go here.
