After all the leaked info about the BlackBerry 9000 (both 3G and 3G-less versions) this May, BlackBerry finally announces the smartphone officially named BlackBerry Bold. The leaked specs of the handset seem to be right on the money, including the fact that the BlackBerry Bold is the first BlackBerry handset to feature tri-band HSDPA networks. Of course, let’s not forget that it’s also a quad-band EDGE phone, so it’s idea for global roaming.
The smartphone is equipped with a half-VGA colour LCD display, a media player, full QWERTY keyboard, memory card slot, and a 2-megapixel camera with 5x digital zoom. As mentioned, it also features Wi-Fi connectivity and an integrated GPS supporting BlackBerry Maps. PC Magazine released a hands-on review of the BlackBerry Bold today, mentioning that the Bold looks like a streamlined Curve, and praising its new “gorgeous†screen. One notable feature seems to be the 1 GB of onboard, AES256 secure memory where one can store confidential information. The BlackBerry Bold smartphone will be available this summer of 2008.
