When the iPhone 3G was first released in Australia, consumers at least had a choice between plan and prepaid phones. It hasn’t long been since, but Optus’s prepaid plan seems to have (almost) vanished.
According to Gizmodo, a reader wrote in to tell them that he was informed in a certain Apple store that all iPhones will be under contract from here onwards. Thankfully for those who are yet to get their handsets, that doesn’t seem to be the case. There was merely a problem with supply and iPhone 3G prepaid kits will only be available in the George street Optus Store in Sydney for now. The Optus rep didn’t say whether the prepaid iPhone 3G plan will be offered in other stores subsequently, we’ll just have to wait and see.
