Oh Palm. You’ve left everyone wondering when your new operating system will ever be released. I remember hearing about the Nova much earlier this year, but it seems we still have to wait a while before we catch a glimpse of it.
Yes, the new Palm Nova will reportedly debut on CES 2009 and will be released by mid-year. BusinessWeek stresses that Nova may be Palm’s last hope, seeing as stocks plummeted by 80 percent lately. But the question is: is it too late for Palm? The Android made a spectacular entry into the market this year, and then there are the steadfast contenders in the race: Apple and BlackBerry. Nevertheless, Palm is betting on the Nova both as a multimedia platform and a platform for business consumers. That means they hope the Nova will be an operating system for everyone, so people won’t have to choose between a multimedia-centric gadget and a business-oriented device. I guess we’ll see by 2009 whether Palm could pull it off.
