RIM’s first flip phone is now available in Australia under Optus. While RIM failed to make a killing with the Pearl Flip due to mere entry level features, I’m sure at least a couple of you, readers, are interested. Optus and RIM teamed up with MTV to endorse the product hoping the young and the hip would like the phone enough to actually buy it.
I’m pretty sure at this point in time you’re gunning for either the Bold or the Storm. But if you’d rather go for something simpler, the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 has WiFi and 2 megapixel camera with a SureType keyboard and a video and audio player. There’s neither 3G nor GPS, but if you just need a phone for text messaging and email, it could work. The BlackBerry Pearl Flip is only offered with the $79 2-year cap plan with no upfront payment.
