When we reported on Vodafone’s plan to release the 3G iPhone in Australia, we mentioned that CNET Australia hinted on an Optus release as well. It seems that bit is actually true. Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. just announced its plans to release the iPhone in Australia, India, Singapore, and the Philippines.
There wasn’t any mention on which iPhone generation SingTel’s going to launch in the aforementioned countries. But since Vodafone’s releasing the 3G iPhone, it’ll make no sense for SingTel to release the first gen iPhone version, unless if it’s really their aim to market it to those who don’t have a need for 3G connection, or those who can only afford the 3G-less variant. Aside from Optus in Australia, the iPhone will be released by Bharti Airtel Ltd in India and Globe Telecom in the Philippines, both of which are partially owned by SingTel.
