and the universal opinion is…they are a ripoff! When they can deliver good rates for Blackberry, what is the problem with iPhone… I will tell you what is the problem. Corporates will not take up iPhone till it allows more than one process to run at a time, firewallable, that it has synching with email properly…and a dozen other things. Until then Blackberry wins for corporates and they will pay the cash

Yes, I think Apple Australia may be over estimating the potential popularity of the iPhone 3G. Let’s see how it pans out…

Companies always milk the early adopters - some will buy an iPhone at any cost. They can always drop the price to encourage sales if the popularity isn’t up to expectations.

I don’t think iPhone is really aimed at corporates as much as people seem to think… more at gadgetophiles and “trendy” types.

In my opinion Australian market price is a BIG Rip Off. Why are we different that what U.S. is paying for…Apple( steven Jobs whatever his name is) Annouce that it will be affordable for everyone so why Australian market Ripping Off People.I think people should wait till the price come down.

The Early Adopters will gladly bear that price to be sporting the hottest new gadget around…

@MrGadget Optus’ pricing page says a pre-paid 8Gb iPhone will cost $729, not $400 as you suggest.

Adding the cost of unlocking the device from Optus, you can have an unlocked 8Gb iPhone 3G for $809….or you can just buy an $80 recharge and the phone will be unlocked free, from new.

I don’t think the iPhone purchase price is particularly expensive, but the price of mobile data download in Australia is still ridiculous compared to the US.
