Without the advantage of being pre-installed in the world’s most used operating system, Firefox is slowly catching up to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer as the Internet browser of choice. It is now the second most used browser with an 18.41% share of the browser market. This achievement is non-trivial.

Much of its success comes from its open source development, which means that developers from all around the world, not necessarily working for Mozilla, have contributed to its code.
Mozilla have just announced that Firefox 3 will officially be available for download this June 17. However they’re adding in a bit of spice with that release by attempting to break the Guinness World record for “Most Software Downloaded in 24 hours”. Fantastic idea. This day could also be called “Microsoft IE Ouch Day”.
If there’s anytime to throw your hat in with the good guys, it’s on June 17.
