Right on time as we expected it, the much talked-about handset is now official as Nokia announces the Nokia “Tube” 5800 XpressMusic. The Tube is a full-faced touch screen phone that focuses on audio functionality and aims to deliver the “best total music experience possible.”
The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic sports a 3.2-inch widescreen touch display (that supports finger, stylus, and plectrum or pick input) and a 3.2megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens that can also be used for recording 30 frames-per-second video clips. It’s equipped with a meaty 8GB microSD card (expandable slot can support up to 16GB), built-in surround sound speakers, and a 3.5mm jack for compatibility with most headphones. One feature unique to the Tube is the “Media Bar” that provides easy access to your files through the use of a drop-down menu. Additionally, the phone supports Flash so you can view web sites in their entirety.
Regarding connectivity, there’s GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, and HSDPA for Europe and North America (everyone else gets the GSM version, too bad for us). It’ll be available this quarter for around US$392 in blue, red, and black. The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic will be the first device to run on Symbian S60 5th edition and one of the first to support Nokia’s “Comes With Music” service.
