While most people this year seem to focus on the high-profile phones such as the iPhone 3G, the HTC Touch Diamond, and even the yet-to-be-released Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1, there are strong contenders in the market for those who don’t care a bit about fads. CNET, at least, seems to think so: a recent review of the Nokia E71 proclaimed it as one of this year’s best smartphones.
CNET found the Nokia E71 to be terrifically featured with HSDPA and WiFi connectivity as well as a-GPS functionality. Of course that could be found in other smartphones as well, but Nokia E71 also has a list of third party applications including a measurement converter, a dictionary, messaging clients, a business card scanner, and even a barcode reader. Another thing to note is that while the E71 looks terribly underpowered when the specs are read on paper, in reality (which is what matters), it’s fast and rarely experiences lags. But, of course, everything has a downside, and for Nokia E71, it would probably be the tiny keys in the keyboard which requires a learning curve.
