Talking on mobile phones has been the cause of many vehicular accidents worldwide. It’s a global problem that should be addressed before incidents become far too common for our own good. This technology called Key2SafeDriving, aims to help minimize this type of accidents.
In Key2SafeDriving, each member of the family who can drive is given a copy of the car’s key inside an enclosure. The enclosure recognizes, via wireless connection, whenever somebody inserts their key in the ignition. The enclosure then communicates with the person’s mobile phone and puts it into driving mode, meaning the user cannot make or receive calls until the key is placed back inside the enclosure. Of course, the user is still allowed to dial preprogrammed numbers in cases of emergency. This is only the case of teenagers though – adults are allowed to connect a Bluetooth headset or car kit to their mobile phone for handless phone conversations (which might be just as dangerous in my opinion).
