Along with news of the 3G iPhone, the new Mac OS X was also presented at the WWDC. Its name: the Snow Leopard. Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard will be out within one year and focuses more on improving the previous OS version rather than amassing a list of new features.
A new integrated technology called “Grand Central” optimizes the Snow Leopard for multi-core processors. It also lets developers’ apps tap into a computer’s GPU power wherein only graphic apps can tap into it before. The new OS can support Microsoft Exchange 2007 as well as up to a theoretical 16TB of RAM. One notable feature the Snow Leopard introduces is the QuickTime X which optimizes support for audio and video file formats for efficient playback. Finally, the Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard has 53 percent faster JavaScript implementation in its Safari browser program.
