At the recently concluded WWDC 2008, Wall Street analyst Gene Munster interviewed a few app developers subsequent to the announcement of the 3G iPhone. Half of Munster’s interviewees said they’re going to focus on developing apps solely for the iPhone and the iPod Touch.
Apparently, around 70% of these developers are committed to developing “Enterprise apps” which include apps centered on location services, entertainment, and video games. Guess what? The average price of iPhone apps like the ones mentioned is below US$3, with 71% of the kind being free. If the same pricing continues to be followed, it’ll be a boon for all iPhone users, but a bane for Apple, as 30% of all revenue coming from the App store goes to the company to offset the store’s maintenance costs. But, with Apple encouraging developers to charge for Enterprise apps, I won’t be surprised if they end up twice or thrice their original price in the future.
