In this year’s Computex in Taiwan, the sheer number of ultra-portables is enough to make your head hurt. Aside from the previously discussed, much-anticipated Asus Eee PC 901 and 1000, MSI also released what many are expecting to compete with the Eee notebook PC for the mini-note throne—the 10-inch MSI Wind.
Majority of the specs we’ve gleaned from reviews of the MSI Wind before proved to be true. The rumor about an Intel Shelton ’08 processor was debunked though, as it was revealed that the Wind would be running on Intel Atom 1.6GHz. Due to the chosen processor and some other reasons, the Wind’s battery can last for up to 6 hours. Now, the best part: the MSI Wind Windows XP edition has a MSRP of US$499 and would be available at the MSI Mobile web site on June 16. The Linux model, on the other hand, costs US$399 but wouldn’t be available until late summer. You can also get to choose among three colors: black, white, and pink.
What amuses me most is MSI Wind’s dig against other mini-notes. MSI says, “Other lightweight, low-cost notebooks on the market are very poorly designed. They are flashy, but once the novelty wears off, they turn out to be very impractical.†You gotta love the drama.
