Everyone who favors the form factor of the hiptop slide rejoice for it now comes in red. Motorola and Telstra launched the hiptop Red in Australia, aiming for the young, social networking-addicted generation.
The hiptop Red’s main features are instant messaging, MySpace access, and of course, text messaging. The device can be hooked up to a 24-month AU$30 monthly Telstra unlimited data plan and can be used both as a planner and an MP3 player. A peeve I have against the hiptop Red is its 1.3-megapixel camera. If the device is targeting young ‘uns who spend every free time they have on MySpace (where the addicted upload every picture they could), a better camera should be in place. Going back to specs, the hiptop Red has 2.4-inch display, a full QWERTY keypad, and a trackball. It’s now available exclusively to Telstra for AU$679.
