I think it was last month when Microsoft started sending feelers to the masses with the tag line, “Say goodbye to laser.” It was, of course, easily figured out by the blogosphere, but now Microsoft has gone official with the announcement of BlueTrack Technology on two new mice.
The Microsoft BlueTrack Technology uses blue beam. Aside from the difference in color from laser, it apparently widens the list of surfaces the mouse can be used on including marble, granite, and carpet on which the laser mouse is rendered useless. The two mice are the redesigned Microsoft Explorer Mouse and Microsoft Explorer Mini Mouse. Both use 2.4GHz wireless technology and can work up to 30 feet within the notebook. Both also use minitransceivers that could snap into the cavities at the bottom of the mice. The two mice will be available in the USA first on November for $99.95 (Microsoft Explorer Mouse) and $79.95 (Microsoft Explorer Mini Mouse).
