At the CTIA 2008 trade show, RIM announced a glut of new applications the company has christened “lifestyle apps.” These new apps perhaps demonstrate the Canadian company’s efforts to compete with the iPhone head-on.
It’s not that the BlackBerry isn’t good enough with what it has to offer, but improvements are in order when advancements are to be made. Among the list of new applications is the Microsoft mobile search with RIM integrating the Microsoft search engine into BlackBerry handsets, allowing users to look for location-based results. Another is the TiVo application that can be used to search TiVo recordings and set future recordings using your handsets. In the future, TiVo recordings can even be viewed on the BlackBerry. Finally, RIM has introduced applications for social networking site MySpace and music streaming site Slacker. All of these “lifestyle applications” for the BlackBerry will be available later this year, some as early as this October.
