Soon, you can be texting, making, and receiving calls while aboard a flying airplane. The Australian Communications and Media Authority has recently called for the amendment of the Mobile Phone Jammer Prohibition to allow pico cell technology to be used on airplanes.
The mentioned prohibition bans the use of any mobile phone jammer in the country. The pico cell jammer technology though could eliminate the risks involved when using mobile phones while in flight. Qantas carried out trials of mobile phone use while inside airplanes last year and it turned out to be a success. Mobile phone use could soon be allowed on both Australian domestic and international flights soon, but for now, Qantas plans to integrate the pico cell technology on their Boeing 767 and Airbus 330 domestic planes in the immediate future.
