HTC Touch HD Officially Announced

It didn’t take long for the official press release to circulate after the leaks of the HTC Touch HD’s pics came out. Just by its name it’s easy to figure out that the HTC Touch HD is a media-centric touch screen phone. It sports a 3.8-inch (yes, that big!) WVGA (wide-screen VGA) display so you can watch videos and view images as clear as they could get.

The HTC Touch HD uses HTC’s Vibrant TouchFLO user interface and has a 5 megapixel camera equipped with autofocus. For connection using any stereo headphones, there’s also a 3.5mm jack. Unfortunately, the HTC Touch HD is slated only for a Q4 ‘08 European release for now what with a 7.2 Mbps HSDPA connection meant for the networks in that region. A global release is expected to follow soon, hopefully with Australia included in the list.

Check out the official HTC Touch HD product page here.

Mmmm…. Yum… Looks very good…

It’s too bad HTC still hasn’t decided to put some sort of flash for the camera, it would really help…

Yes, that’s very sexy indeed. I’d almost be tempted to forgo the hardware keyboard of the Touch Pro for that screen. Bring on WinMo7 for the ultimate do-everything portable device.

I’ve always been a fan of HTC products.

I saw the Touch Diamond and was very impressed. That phone would have been just fine for my business use, but it didn’t have memory card expansion, so I’ve been hanging out for the Touch Pro, even though I didn’t want the keyboard – I’m an old Graffiti user from the US Robotics Palm Pilot days. Just as I was about to order the Touch Pro, I heard about the Touch HD and that PDA phone is the complete solution to my needs. RAM card expansion, full PDA facilities, no keyboard, standard 3.5mm audio jack for my musical work, GPS of course for my TomTom Navigator software and lots of other goodies. It has everything I need to be my mobile office and sync to my desktop every day. I can’t wait for this to come out. Who the hell would buy an iPhone with all its deficiencies when the Touch HD is imminent? I’ll be waiting with bated breath.

I am now having a choice between the HTC Touch HD and the new Nokia 5800 touchscreen. Both are appealing to me. I will probably go for the HTC Touch HD because of its big 3.8 inches HD screen + GPS, MS Exchange email support and fast internet browsing up to 7.2 mbps. That’s all I need from a mobile phone.
