Yes, we know, the HTC Touch Diamond is yet to be released. However, being touted as iPhone’s fiercest competitor thus far, it’s all the rage nowadays—not that I’m complaining; it seems to be quite promising. And indeed, the folks at CNET Australia seem to agree; based on their review of the handset, at least. CNET is all praise for HTC Touch Diamond’s interface and aesthetics, stressing the need for both for a smartphone to really hit it big.
However, just as the CNET review lauds HTC Touch Diamond’s user interface (TouchFLO 3D), the reviewer is also critical of the lack of a tactile keypad. Not that the iPhone needed any to be popular, but since the handset is somehow similar to Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X1, the lack of a physical keyboard is a disadvantage. Those who’re disappointed over the feature (or lack thereof) need not despair though; HTC is reportedly improving the smartphone’s on-screen keypad interface. Bottom line of the review is that the HTC Touch Diamond is a mashup of the iPhone and the Xperia X1 and is actually “a product capable of superseding them bothâ€â€”whether it will or will not though, remains to be seen.
