HTC Teases with Very First GSM / WiMAX phone

Wow, HTC. First the HTC Touch HD and now this (of course there’s also the HTC Dream aka the T-Mobile G1, but the OS mattered more than the hardware in that case). Yes, the very first GSM/WiMAX phone is on the way, courtesy of HTC.

Previously spotted as the T8920 in Russia, this handset is the HTC MAX 4G with a screen rocking a 3.8-inch 800 x 480 pixels resolution and of course, WiMAX connectivity. Other specs include a massive 8GB internal flash memory, WiFi, GPS, triband EDGE, and FM radio, and not one but two cameras (one, I assume, is front facing for video calls. Of course, aside from the WiMAX support, the MAX 4G doesn’t look too lousy either. In fact, it looks positively great.

I watched one of the videos (though it was in Russian and I didn’t understand much) and it looked quite smooth for a Windows Mobile powered device. You could watch TV many channels on it and it looked pretty good. I don’t think you can do that on 3G networks, at least not at that speed and video quality. WiMAX is a winner when it comes to wireless video applications.
