Having reviewed far too numerous devices before, CNET Australia found out that at least a couple of Garmin Nuvi GPS navigators (particularly Nuvi 260W and Nuvi 760) are actually equipped with “very good” alert systems.
The system alerts users of red light, speed camera, and even school zones ahead of time. Unlike other brands that rely on beeps for alerts though, Garmin even has different voice warnings for each zone. It’s just too bad that the alerts don’t come pre-installed on the navigation device. So, CNET AU put up detailed instructions on how you can perform your own installation. You basically have to acquire special files called Points of Interest (POI) which you have to install on the Garmin Nuvi to make the warning and alert system work.
For the detailed instructions on how to get and install these POI files, head on over to CNET Australia.
