Look, don’t blame me for already having spent hours using the Google StreetView for Australia which just went live yesterday. Come on, is there anything more amusing than digital stalking, er, I mean digital tourism?
After France and the US, Australia is the next country to enjoy Google StreetView service for free. According to Gizmodo, while the US StreetView only covered 50 major cities, Australia’s would encompass a huge chunk of the country already. Of course, ultimate goal is to cover the 100% of the country. So if I were you, I wouldn’t pick my nose in public anymore. Don’t panic too much though; if you’re familiar with StreetView, then you must know that Google automatically blurs faces due to privacy concerns.
While it’s true that the service raises issues regarding privacy, it’s still a useful tool for real estate agents, entrepreneurs, and educators. In fact, Google has apparently worked with numerous Australian Geography teachers who will be using the StreetView as a tool in their classrooms.
On a similar note, if anybody wants to get a glimpse of the far east, Google StreetView Japan also went live yesterday.
