For all the potential Android app developers out there, your time has come – Google has announced the launch of the new Android Dev Phone 1. The handset is the same HTC Dream that’s being sold through T-Mobile as the G1, except that as its name implies, this one’s meant for the developers and hence, unlocked.
The Android Dev Phone 1 is available for all developers who register at the Android Market for a one-time US$25 fee. Developers are then given a chance to purchase the unlocked phone for US$399. Since it’s SIM-unlocked, it’s only natural that it will be available to countries outside the United States. In fact, it will be available in 18 countries: UK, Germany, Japan, India, Canada, France, Taiwan, Spain, Singapore, Switzerland, Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Hungary and Australia.
