It makes totally perfect sense – allow your customers free access to the internet so that they will hang around longer, potentially order / consume more goods and services and increase the likelihood that they will do it all again tomorrow. Seems good in theory however it’s sad that many cafe owners (especially in Australia) are ignorant of the possibilities of converting the tech needs of their demographic into more revenue as many are often too focussed on the operational aspects of their businesses.
Starbucks and AT&T however, have finally taken the plunge and is offering free WiFi in all of their 7,000+ locations in the U.S to regular customers (regular in the sense of people who use their Starbucks card at least once a week). Setting it up is as easy as 1-2-3 (look at image above).
I remember last time I was in the U.S., I had to buy prepaid WiFi from T-Mobile. It was cheap and simple enough back then, however FREE WiFi is always better!
P.S. In case you haven’t caught on, free WiFi is only currently available in U.S. Starbucks cafes.
