Flip Mino Camcorder Goes HD

Posted By Mariella Moon  Published in Upcoming

The popular Flip Mino camcorder has donned a new image and went HD. The Flip MinoHD is touted as the world’s smallest HD camcorder weighing merely three ounces. It can reportedly record up to a 60 minutes of HD video.

The resolution of recoded videos is HD 720p with an internal memory of 4GB, easy to figure out touch-sensitive buttons, and a 1.5-inch anti-glare display. Aside from the fact that it can record HD videos, it also comes with the FlipShare software. This software makes it easier to organize recorded clips, allowing users to quickly edit and upload the clips on video sites such as YouTube. All that needs to be done is to connect the Flip MinoHD to a computer via its integrated USB arm.

This is all well and good, but how the heck do I get my hands on one here in Australia? They’re only available in the US and UK it seems, and they can’t ship to Australia.

Yes, Mr Gadget, get these in.

Yet another vote to get the Flip Mino HD into Australia.

If Mr Gadget can get these what is your RRP? I’ve seen the prices on other sites and they still aren’t cheap here in Australia.

I just found this article about trying to get a Mino HD in Australia, includes a response from Western Digital:

Cheers,

A disappointed Matt.

Matt, word on the street has it that Cisco will acquire Flip so here’s to hoping that it will also be accessible via Cisco’s current distribution channels worldwide inc. Oz.

Hi, I see everyone wants to know where to buy these in Australia. You can get them online at a few places.

Expansys have the whole range and apparently ship within 5 days.

I tried to order the mino HD off expansys – a complete disaster. Ships within five days? Nope. Respond to emails within five days? Nope. Get the delivery charge wrong? Yes!
It is now twenty days since I ordered the mino and four days since I attempted to cancel the order – my order status is still ‘awaiting stock’ (their website says 100 in stock, ships in four days).
Nightmare.
Mr Gadget – please get this product in so we can order it from a reliable source.

An update – Amazon sells these for a cheap price and quick delivery. It is now one month since ordering with Expansys and still cannot get confirmation of cancellation.
Have a nice day.

I previously owned the Flip MinoHD so this review is based on a comparison between the Flip MinoHD and the new Flip UltraHD.
After reading about the Flip UltraHD’s addition of an HDMI output, larger screen, and longer battery life I decided to sell my 4 month old Flip MinoHD and purchase the Flip UltraHD. Since the MinoHD is very sleek and diminutive in size, my first reaction to the UltraHD was that it was quite a bit larger and bulkier to hold, and has taken some time to get used to. However, unless you’ve used a MinoHD the larger size of the UlraHD will probably be less noticeable. I found the camera controls on the UltraHD to be slightly easier to operate vs. the touch sensitive buttons on the MinoHD. As far as video quality between the two, I compared two different videos and both are about the same, however, the colors appear to be slightly more vibrant with the UltraHD.

The flip Is not designed to compete with a larger camcorder, like a samsung HMZ20c or Canon HF100, but as a stand – alone fun unit, it scores and With stand -alone fun The Flip is a must for all Youtube aficionados
