Firefox Mobile for the Symbian Platform Coming Soon

Are you on Symbian? You might be happy to know that you’re getting another option for a new web browser soon. Aside from the recently-released Opera Mini, Firefox is reportedly developing a Mobile version for Symbian smartphones.

A post in the blog of Mozilla’s Christian Sejersen mentions that Symbian holds 52 percent of the global total for smartphones compare to Windows Mobile’s 11 percent and Linux’s 7.2 percent, the latter two being the platforms Fennec or Firefox Mobile is currently available for. The post mentions the effort to stay relevant in the smartphone space, that’s why Fennec for Symbian phones will be developed and released by 2009.
