When Creative Xmod was released last year, the manufacturer promised that the gadget could improve sound quality dramatically that digital music would sound better than CDs. The claim is contested by this recent review of the device though.
The Creative Xmod is an adapter used to connect the audio source and the audio output device. The reviewer tested it using various songs of different bitrates. The digital music really did sound better. More specifically, the reviewer said that it was able to increase the volume of “low and high frequencies, the bass and tweeters.” There was no difference in the mid-range sounds. That means high-quality files sounded better but the sound problems with the low-quality files only become more pronounced. In the end, while the Creative Xmod was able to make digital music sound a bit better, claims of CD quality are questionable.
