Who says cars should always be made of metal? BMW shatters stereotypes with the GINA Light Visionary Model concept. The concept car sheds the metallic body, and uses a seamless (no, really, it’s one whole fabric) water-resistant lycra material that’s coated in plastic.
The lycra is stretched over a metal frame like a catsuit, with the car itself equipped with moving parts. The fabric, which does not loosen or tear when the body parts move, combined with the car parts which can either be removed or adjusted makes for a shape-shifting machine. Inspiration came from a 4.4-liter Z8 with six-speed automatic transmission. As cool as it looks though, I’m not sold on it until they find a fabric that can’t be torn even when slashed with a knife (hey, I live in a tough part of the world). BUT, the GINA Light Visionary Model is just a concept so I’m cutting it some slack and giving BMW a chance to improve it more in the future.
