Considerably upstaging Apple’s iFund offering US$100 million for the development of applications for the Apple iPhone and the iPod Touch, RIM has just announced the BlackBerry Partners Fund. And just how much is the fund worth in all? Research in Motion threw in an extra US$50 million more than the iFund, bringing the BlackBerry Partners Fund to a total worth of US$150 million.
The BlackBerry Partners Fund is a collaboration among the firms RIM, Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), and Thomson Reuters. However, while the project is geared towards developing applications for the BlackBerry, the Fund is really not restricted to applications for any one mobile platform. How nice of them. Although, really, I reckon those developing BlackBerry apps really have the advantage. Check out the full press release of the BlackBerry Partners Fund project.
