The Apple iPhone 3G release frenzy last week had a lot of people overlooking news about other handsets. These live shots of the BlackBerry Javelin, for example, surfaced last Friday. If you remember, the BlackBerry Javelin is one of the two 3G-less BlackBerry 9000 currently in the works.
The other version is the BlackBerry Niagara which has, at least, EV-DO Rev. A, while the Javelin has EDGE connection. Of course, you have to wonder about the relevancy of said connections by 2009, which is the purported release date of these phones (although the Javelin actually has WiFi connection too), when almost everything else being prepped for release next year has 3G. But I guess they’ll be great for people who only need the occasional web connectivity—everyone else who needs 3G can get the BlackBerry 9000.
As a recap, here are the known BlackBerry Javelin specs for now:
- QWERTY keyboard
- 480×360 LCD
- Quad-band GSM/EDGE
- GPS
- Wi-Fi
- 3.2 megapixel camera
- 4.6 OS platform
- BES 5.0 support as well
- ArgonV processor
