Last January, news came out that Asus plans to integrate WiMax technology into the next generation of Eee PCs. Hence, when the Intel Atom-based Asus Eee PC 901 was confirmed just recently, WiMax was part of the planned specs, as mentioned by the company CEO. Unfortunately, the powers that be in Asus changed their minds.
Perhaps it’s upon further analysis that Asus came to the conclusion that the WiMax technology would not reach maturity this 2008. In effect, WiMax in the Asus Eee PC 901 would be only be offered as an option to contract customers. The WiMax technology would then be available in Asus through its larger 14.1 to 15.4-inch notebooks and mainly for US market releases.
