You know you’ve been releasing too many varieties of one model when you try to get rid of the older, more unfavorable variation. Not too long ago, we reported that Asus will halt production of the Asus Eee PC 900 to give way to the Atom-powered Eee PC 901.
Asus denied this news not too long after that. Now it seems the company really is trying to rid itself of its original 8.9-inch ultra-portable. From yesterday, July 8, to July 31, 2008, some resellers will be offering a US$100 rebate for the Celeron-based Asus Eee PC 900. That means the price is now down to $450. Of course the Atom version would be better, but if you’re not very particular about it, or if you’re using the notebook as a backup device or planning to mod it on your own, this is one good deal.
