Does the pic on the left look familiar? It should be—the Asus Eee PC 1000 which was launched today looks just like the Eee PC 901. The hinges, design, logo, and trackpad are the same. At first glance, they seem to only differ when it comes to size, with the Eee PC 901 taking on an 8.9-inch screen and the Eee PC 1000, a 10-inch screen.
In reality, however, they differ on a few other specs as well. Of note is the Eee PC 1000’s keyboard, which is 92 percent the size of a normal-sized keyboard making it easier to type with. A detail which took me by surprise though, is the fact that there will be two versions of the 10-inch Eee PC to be sold—the Asus Eee PC 1000 and the Asus Eee PC 1000H. Both can have either 10 or 10.2-inch screens, with the Eee PC 1000 running Linux and the Eee PC 1000H Windows XP Home. At the same time, Eee PC 1000 will be equipped with 40GB SSD while the other has 80GB HDD. Both versions will use Intel Atom processor, will carry WiFi, and will have 2GB of RAM. The Asus Eee PC 1000 has a MSRP of US$658, while the Asus Eee PC 1000H is priced at US$625.
