Some pre-release reviews of the iPhone 3G pointed out that making use of some of its features, most notably the 3G connection itself, drain its battery faster than expected. In time, a solution might be devised for the issue; for now though, Apple published a list of pointers to help prolong battery life.
Apple calls it a list of “commonsense pointers” as they’re merely stating the obvious things which should be done to enjoy a longer battery life. First pointer is to always update to the latest software available, as there might be new ways to preserve battery life included in it. Second is to optimize the phone based on what features you need. For example, Apple advices to turn off the 3G when it’s not in use, turn off GPS, check mail less frequently, minimize use of apps, turn off WiFi and Bluetooth, and turn off the media player’s equalizer. Ah well, I guess if you want to enjoy using the iPhone 3G, you’d have to make do with the unfavorable battery life.
