At last, the event has finally come. All the rumors and speculations were either proven or busted with the presentation of the refreshed MacBook and MacBook Pros. Perhaps the most noticeable new feature is the new aluminum cases which are obviously a cue from the MacBook Air.
The screens are now LED-backlit, surrounded but a glossy black bezel that’s sure to irk a lot of people. The old trackpad has been replaced with a glass one and given multi-touch features for easier navigations. Aside from aesthetics, the innards of Mac’s notebooks also got a refresh. For graphics, the NVIDIA’s new 9400M GPU + chipset are now used with 9600M GT switchable graphics chip if you want to attach another display to the notebook; you can also make the switch to SSD from HDD. These features are both available for both the 15-inch MacBook Pro and the 13-inch MacBook.
For US$1999, you can get the MacBook Pro with a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo processor and 2GB of DDR3 RAM while paying US$2499 gives you higher specs comprised of 4GB of DDR3 RAM and 320GB HDD. If you want the smaller MacBook, then US$1299 gets you the 2GHz Core 2 Duo processor and 2GB of DDR3 RAM while US$1599 gets you a 320GB HDD and 4GB of DDR3. Unfortunately, it seems the US$800 price point was a false rumor although Apple is indeed offering the lowest-end MacBook for US$999. Too bad.
