Look, if my school did this when I was in college, I would have actually attended lectures a lot more frequently than I did. Seriously. Perhaps that was what Abilene Christian University was aiming for in the first place when they decided to give the students a choice between the iPhone and the iPod Touch. And yes, the lucky collegians get them for free.
OK, so the handsets won’t exactly be completely free—Texas-based Abilene Christian University will be paying for the hardware, but the students (or their parents, more like) will have to pay for AT&T’s service. The school has already developed a number of Web-based applications for use on the students’ iPhone. Since they’re web-based, the apps could also be ported to other systems in the future such as Google Android handsets. One particularly useful app called “mymobile” displays a list with the students’ classes and professors with a 3D map of the campus so no mischievous senior could victimize an overwhelmed frosh anymore (too bad, kids).
