While there were prior reports which claim that the 3G iPhone won’t be setting foot in the Land of the Rising Sun anytime soon, recent news from Telecoms Korea suggests otherwise. It seems that the second gen iPhone is indeed bound not only for Japan but for Korea as well.
The joint release will see NTT DoCoMo as the iPhone official carrier in Japan and Korea Telecom Freetel for the obvious. I don’t know how the iPhone will fare in two of the most advanced countries with regards to mobile technology, but seeing as majority of the keitai (Japanese mobile phones) I’ve seen look quite the same as the other, the iPhone might have a fighting chance. If all goes well with negotiations and such, said eastern countries will allegedly be seeing the 3G iPhone at the purported launch date—June 9.
