The closed-back Sennheiser HD25-1 II Closed Stereo Monitoring Headphones are purpose-designed, professional monitoring headphones offering high attenuation of background noise. "The captain has now switched off the seatbelt sign." Ahh, the words I'd been waiting to hear since I bought my Sennheiser HD25 Closed Stereo Monitoring Headphones. I had received my headphones on Friday night with much excitement and anticipation and found the sound quality and noise reduction superb. However, the main purpose for the purchase was my frequent (twice weekly) plane flights for work.

All decent quality headphones sound great in a relatively quiet house environment but how would they perform with the constant hum and buzz of engines and wind on an Airbus A320-200 at 35,000ft?

The problem with normal headphones or, God forbid, the ones they sell on board for $2.50 is that they have no noise dampening capability. You have to turn up the volume to very high to drown out aircraft (and other passenger) noise and by that time you start getting distortion in the sound quality and are on your way to getting permanent ear damage. These Sennheiser headphones would get their first real workout on the plane flight!

As if to give these headphones a full scenario test I was assigned a seat at the rear of the plane that morning (more noise) surrounded by four babies!! None in my row thankfully and I must admit that two of them were asleep the whole time and I didn't realise they were there until I got off the plane. However, the other two were certainly vocal and so I turned on the mp3 player to drift off into another world. The sound was crisp and resonant and blocked out a lot of the ambient noise. Not everything mind you, as they're they're headphones, not earplugs. Its probably a good safety thing that you can hear outside anyway, and of course you can drown out everything by turning the volume up but I like to keep mine down.

Since then I have used these Sennheiser headphones on a MEL-HKG-LHR return flight (get the GST refund) and they are no doubt better than the default headphones for the inflight entertainment. Even with sound coming out of only one earphone because of the double heaphone plugs on international flights I was able to have the sound at one notch above mute for movies whereas it would be at 6 or 7 with the plane headphones.

In summary these are probably the best luxury purchase I've made all year and would recommend them to anyone. You get what you pay for and these are definite worth the price! I would certainly go for these Sennheiser headphones rather than another comparably priced high-end brand with similar noise cancelling capabilities.

These headphones are simply amazing, if you've never listened to Sennheisers before or if you've only used their sub $300 range, these will blow you away! The bass is so rich and full, incredibly warm and intense, the phones cover your ear and block out most external noise which is sweet, no noise cancelling needed! They are real comfy although the model HMD25 with the mic built in are a little heavy.

I short, you cant buy better, astounding quality and clarity, full frequency range and so comfortable. Sennheiser rocks it yet again.
