The new o2 XDA IIs is a Pocket PC with a built-in mobile phone. Run on the Second Edition of Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC Phone Edition operating system. The new model adds Wi-Fi (802.11b) to its predecessor's Bluetooth and infrared, bringing it right up to date as far as wireless connectivity is concerned. These features coupled with a built-in digital camera make the XDA IIs a feature packed handset.

Truely superb !!

One of the reasons I bought a PDA phone was for sms's as I true hate having to press keys multiple times to get the correct letter, so having the keyboard on these units have proven a boon, especially when using an Arkon Car Mount, with the keyboard open and sitting at red lights :-)

The WifFi is great, easily hooking up to both my home and office systems, it does take some time to work thru the various systems you might find when trying to use a hotspot but top efforts for ease of trying !!

The Bluetooth I did find to be problematic initially, not setting up as thats real easy. I carry mine normally on my belt on the left side, but use my headset on the right ear and found that ocasionally it would get noisy for both parties, wearing the headset on the left ear or the unit on the right side solved the problem but even just wearing the unit on the belt in just a slightly different position can make all the different. Raising the unit up, such as in a car (using the Arkon mount) the problem has never arisen, or even at when the unit sits in its charge/usb cradle on a table or shelf, actually I tend to walk out of range (10m to easily :-)

In particular for those frequent travellers, the unit has a flight mode, which turns off ALL RF for airplane use, remeber though to turn the unit off as well for takeoff and landings....

I purchased an extra battery originally which I have only ever used twice when on the second day of heavy use without an overnight charge it just ran out of juice.

I also use the unit with a bluetooth GPS unit, which is the next task of mounting that easily on the body for walking use in foreign cities (without looking too much of a geek :-)

o2's done it again with the o2 XDA IIs! Yes, I know I said I was going to wait for the o2 XDA IIi but after all the problems I had with installing an unofficial WM2003SE ROM on my XDA II, I said to myself "What the hey, gimme an o2 XDA IIs PocketPC please!" I've been having fun ever since, and yes, WiFi is working beautifully!

The o2 XDA IIs is a technological stunner! It's suave black and gunmetal casing constrasts entrancingly against the glow of the TFT screen.

Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition (WM2003SE) is the OS that drives the o2 XDA IIs. This version is more stable and feature-packed than WM2003 that came installed on the o2 XDA II. Better bluetooth/GPRS/WiFi management, landscape screen support and Transcriber and IE enhancements are the biggest improvements.

Four new buttons appear below the display are very handy - these access the Today Screen, Email, Internet Explorer and the last button is an OK button.

I love the inbuilt WiFi (802.11b)! Previously with my o2 XDA II, I had to swap between my 1GB SD card and Sandisk WiFi 0MB SD card when I wanted to surf. Now that incovenience has been done away with and all I need to do is tap on the WiFi symbol on the bottom right hand of the screen, and voila, I'm online!

The biggest change between the o2 XDA II and the o2 XDA IIs is the new extendible keyboard. Amazingly enough, the keyboard is not as hard to use as I thought it would be and has already proved itself to be quite useful when writing notes and SMSs. Each key has a little dopple/bubble so you know which key you are pressing. I'm very happy to report that the keys illuminate upon pressing which is very handy in lowlight conditions. I'm still getting used to these buttons but it's slowly growing on me...

This new o2 is a 'must consider' for any mobile professional looking for a way to keep track of time, tasks, contacts and emails. The o2 XDA IIs not only does all the aforementioned, but can do a lot more too. For example, I'll be loading my Navman 4410 GPS onto this tonight. This worked superbly on the o2 XDA II. I also have Journal Bar installed (available from Handango) which gives me information such as the weather for the next four days here in Melbourne!

Congratulations to o2 for not only keeping up in the converged devices but really kicking the competitions butt!

P.S. For those getting the o2 XDA IIs, get a bluetooth headset! As mentioned earlier, bluetooth management on WM2003SE rocks!
