Thanks Dan,

I've just done the (undocumented) hard-reset as you mentioned and have made some progress: so it moves one step closer to "good". That's not the only vital missing information in the manual either.

I own a K-Jam and it is an awsome phone. Oldmate who is complaining about it must have tried to update the rom without success or something because I have not had a single problem with it. The camera takes good photos, but you have to have a steady hand for it not to blur. There are several web sites that offer free applications and games for the phone. I have a 2gb memory card installed with several divx (compressed) movies that my son watches on trips in the car.
Only negative is that it has a slower processor than its PDA rivals, but its usability with the slide out keyboard and bonus of being a phone too makes up for this.
Only better phone on the market is the JasJar of which i own too.

After spending several hours searching the internet for a solution I finally got my new K-JAM to work. It needed a hard reset but unfortunately the description of how to do this in the instruction manual is very misleading. After pressing the reset button with the stylus you must CONTINUE TO HOLD the Comm Manager and Voice Command buttons until you see a message asking you to press the send button (the green phone) to perform a hard reset. Following this, wait patiently and the K-JAM should eventually boot into Windows Mobile.
