CeBIT Sydney Australia 2005 : Photos!

Arrived in Sydney on a mild Autumn Monday afternoon.

We got the chance to meet a lot of our Sydney gadgeteers. Hi Thai!

Some of the guys from ROAM Magazine, a new gadget publication, were in a stand across from us. Here's Siddarth one of their gadget reviewers.

Here's a picture of our stand. Overall we were over-the-moon with the response we received at the exhibition. It was great seeing some new gadgets and meeting some of our customers.

Speaking of gadgets, we had FlyBook across the road and they have what most of my staff want! A cool little notebook with all the bells and whistles and executed brilliantly too (www.flybook.biz). Here's me with Kabir Ahmed their global MD and new friend of mine. He's not as serious as he looks in the photo.

CeBIT Sydney Australia : Last day tomorrow...thank God!

Here I am sitting at the hotel lounge blogging after another exhausting day at our CeBIT stand (#F29). I did not envisage that our stand would be so busy! One of the best things has been the chance to say hello to many of our customers and put faces to names.

To those who came by to say hello or give us some encouraging words, thank you!

To be honest, I haven't had much of chance to check out the other stands but there are definitely some cool gadgets at CeBIT. Across the road from us are Dialogue who manufacture the FlyBook. You must check out their website!

We've also had a chance to check out the newest Sennheiser headphones...very nice indeed!

CeBIT Sydney Australia 2005 Countdown

This week has been pretty hectic trying to tie up all the tid-bits for CeBIT Sydney - I feel like I'm back in the corporate world doing project management! Where did I place that whip again?

For those who don't know CeBIT is Australasia's leading Information and Communications Technology (ICT) tradeshow and conference for the business marketplace. There will be around 600 exhibitors and 25,000 business visitors.

Just got back from Sydney yesterday and was pleasantly surprised to see some of the main streets lined with CeBIT flags. I've got a feeling that it's going to be big!

Preparation for our CeBIT stand (#F29) has been challenging but exciting. We will now be showcasing gadgets from the following elite brands:

- Krusell : some very stylish leather cases for iPods and XDA products;

Palm LifeDrive Mobile Manager : 4GB on board!

Could the Palm LifeDrive Mobile Manager be PalmOne's ticket back to the top of the PDA charts? With bluetooth, WiFi, 65K colour screen and a whopping 4GB on board, it just may be! I'm surprised why none of the other PDA manufacturers haven't released higher capacity data storage for their machines. Well Palm definitely has first-mover advantage in this round.

Personally, I would have liked to see the Palm LifeDrive come with mobile phone functionality and camera built in and am quite puzzled that these have been left out. At the end of the day, I still think it will do well in today's data storage hungry market.

Blueant Supertooth II Bluetooth Portable Handsfree : Nice work Blueant!

What can I say? The latest incarnation of the Blueant Supertooth (aptly named Blueant Supertooth 2) is a superb bluetooth gadget. Compared to its predecessor (which was pretty good in its own right), the Supertooth 2 has better battery life (20hr talk time!), improved Digital Sound Processor and to be quite frank, looks much more 21st century.

I've had mine for around four days now and it's not going anywhere soon! It sits quite nicely on my sunvisor. Even though it's battery operated, it'll be replacing the Blueant Ezytalk in my car. I just like the look and operation of this unit better. The Blueant Ezytalk is ideal if you don't want to fuss around charging bluetooth handsfree units - it's powered by the cigarette lighter socket.

Setup on the Blueant Supertooth 2 Bluetooth Handsfree
For my fellow O2 XDA IIs owners out there, you'll be delighted to know that setup was very straight forward and took less than a minute to complete. To pair the devices these devices together these are the steps I carried out:

1. Turned on Blueant Supertooth 2 by opening the swivel arm microphone. "On" state will result in the bluetooth indicator light flashing.

2. Pressed the Reject Button and the Pick Up button together until the bluetooth indicator LED flashed red and blue - this takes around 5 seconds. The alternating colour flash signified that the Blueant Supertooth II was now in pairing mode. I found getting to this point was faster than the first Supertooth.

3. Tapped on Bluetooth Symbol on today screen to bring up the Bluetooth Manager > New > Handsfree/Headset Setup> Next > Display All Devices

4. Selected "SupertoothII 3.7" from the list, pressed Next

5. Entered the Device pairing PIN then OK

6. Tapped Finish

For most other bluetooth mobile phone devices, it'll be fairly much the same procedure except that steps 3 and onwards will be a little different due to the varying operating systems/bluetooth managers on each phone.
