ATI X1900 Overheating Problem? Get the ATITool from TechPowerup!

My new computer last year came with an ATI X1900 Radeon Video Card, which at the time I thought was pretty good. I mostly play WoW and do web work on this computer. Six months down the track, I noticed that it started overheating due to the fan not spinning when it was supposed to.

If you're looking to buy this card now, I would recommend that you go for the X1950 model as it seems it has less overheating issues.

Anyway, after my typical Google search (I do this when anything technical goes wrong), I found a great Overclocking tool on TechPowerup that overrides default fan settings. This little app (AtiTool) allows for a couple of ways to control the fan in your ATI X1900 Radeon Card such as:

1. Fixed Percentage
2. Try to keep GPU temperature at
3. Dynamic based GPU temperature

The card is performing better, however I'm now in the hunt for a better card! I think the GeForce 8600GT looks good. Apparently Nvidia cards are better for World of Warcraft?
