Microsoft has been expanding their products since releasing software that was not "Windows" or "Office". First, it was MSN Messenger, then there was the shift to hardware: the infamous Microsoft Ergonomic keyboard. Today we have the

Greetings from the far reaches of the Commonwealth.
I bought one of these, but I am less than impressed. It is a solid, well-built product made from quality components, but like any device that relies on software (it is a USB device, after all), it is only as good as that software.
In this case, the headphones seem bent on reproducing only lower-frequency sounds, making everything you hear sound muffled and hollow. You can "trick" it by using maxed-out the high-end frequencies with graphic equalizer settings (proving that the hardware actually has a good dynamic range), but only in those media players that have such - that means that your games, etc. are out of luck. Sound card-specific utilities don't work either, since the USB driver bypasses the preamp and equalizer settings for your system's regular sound device.
I really wanted to like this product - it feels more solid than almost any other I have tried, and was very reasonably priced. Maybe Microsoft will come out with a utility to adjust the sound levels, but I don't think I can wait that long - I can return it within 14 days to buy something else, which is probably what I will do.
