Queen's Birthday Holiday Australia - Office closed this Monday

According to Wikipedia.com, the Queen's birthday is celebrated at this time because there are not enough winter holidays! It also states that the occasion is used to signify the start of the skiing season and to honour newest members of the "Queen's Birthday honours list", of which new members are inducted into the Order of Australia.
Whether it's the exact date or not, we wish Her Majesty a happy 79th birthday!

The queen's birthday holiday is held in June because it is better weather in the UK in June, rather than April. Remember, April is the end of winter / mid Spring - and the Summer weather of June is thought to be more reliable.
No other reason behind it. Australia just follows the UK on this holiday.
