o2 XDA IIi or o2 XDA IIs...which one should I upgrade to?

Ok here's my problem: I want to upgrade from my o2 XDA II but am finding it hard choosing between the new and currently available o2 XDA IIs or the up and coming o2 XDA IIi!

There are two main reasons why I want to upgrade my current o2 XDA II:

1. Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition: better display support, automatic scroll bars, auto repagination for IE, WPA support, transcriber tweaks and phone edition and Start Menu augmentation.
2. Need inbuilt WiFi: my current Sandisk WiFi SDIO card is great but it's a hassle putting it in and out all the time to swap it with my 1GB SD Card. WiFi networks are burgeoning everywhere! In November I was pleasantly surprised to find that every StarBucks in the U.S. had WiFi and even more happy to find free WiFi at Seattle's Science Centre! WiFi at San Francisco Airport was also very handy...too bad us Aussies are still behind in implementing this technology...

o2 XDA IIi and the o2 XDA IIs Picture

The o2 XDA IIs and IIi cover both of my above requirements, but do I dive in now and get the IIs? Decisions, decisions...

o2 XDA IIi has a blazing processor
Although the XDA IIs has a pull-out 39-key QWERTY keyboard and new dark groovy enclosure, the o2 XDA IIi comes with the more gruntier Intel PXA270 chip which runs at 520MHz as opposed to the 400MHz Intel Xscale PXA263 processor found under the hood of the o2 XDA IIs. I'm anticipating that this speed difference should be quite noticeable - handy for playing games like Crazy Karts, not so much Solitaire though :)

o2 XDA IIi has a better camera
The o2 XDA IIi also has a better camera on board - improved from 0.3 Mega pixels on the o2 XDA II to a whopping 1.3 Mega pixels! Wow that's almost as many Mega pixels that I had on my first Canon Digital Camera! This is great but not a huge factor in my decision on which new XDA to go for.

o2 XDA IIi can use o2 XDA II accessories
Honestly due to all the busyness of this time of year, this is my first time to seriously give this issue a couple of minutes of serious thought! It's all good because it all makes sense now, I've decided to go for the o2 XDA IIi! Despite the fact that it does not have the new stylish case it's o2 XDA IIs cousin, it does have the same enclosure (with a couple of tweaks to the camera outers) as my current o2 XDA II. This means that I can use all my current accessories without having to spend anymore! My wife will be proud of me!

o2 XDA II gadgets like:
- o2 XDA II USB Synch 'n' Charge Retractable Cable (I hope the serials ports are the same!)
- Krussell o2 XDA II Leather Case
- o2 XDA II Arkon Car Mount
- o2 XDA II Pen Stylus in One
- o2 XDA II Exim Screen Protector

Final Choice: o2 XDA IIi
So there you have it, you heard it right here! I'm going to wait for the o2 XDA IIi which is coming out in January 05 and will NOT be tempted by the funky new lines of the o2 XDA IIs! Despite the many notable improvements o2 has made with the o2 XDA IIs such as built-in WiFi, WM2003SE, improved battery life and pull-out keyboard, I will wait. I'll let you know when the o2 XDA IIi's are in!

Well, I would NEVER buy an O2 product again!! We bought an o2 xda when they first came out, and have NEVER been able to get accessories because when we needed to buy a replacement charger less than 12 months later, we found that they had discontinued the xda and all accessories!! And the accessories for the xdaII are not compatible with the xda!!!.....Isn't that illegal in Australia??

    Hi Anon,

I understand your pain, but I believe there a couple of online stores in Australia who sell a whole range of XDA accessories. Just do a search in Google.

We as a company do not sell XDA accessories because we have chosen to focus on the newer models.

At the moment we have a vehicle charger in stock that is compatible with both the XDA and XDA II.

Please let us know if we can help further.

    Best Regards,
    Arnold

I too am deciding which o2 PDA to get. I was tosing up between the XDAIIi, XDAIIs and now the new XDA Exec.

This will be my first PDA phone and don't wanna be stuffing around with the wrong type and have to be buying another at a later date. I will be using the XDA primarily for the phone, and will be getting a bluetooth GPS sender to navigate through Australia's country roads.

At the moment I'm leaning towards the XDAIIi over the Exec due to the size but cannot decide if the inbuilt qwerty keyboard in the XDAIIs will be handy enough to warrant getting one.

I dunno, will let you know in the near future.

Why wont my XDA IIi charge on USB? It didn't even come with an AC Adapter :O and, it charged on USB yesterday. I have a universal AD/DC adapter, but it doesnt do the 5V required for teh XDA IIi, so im stuck using 4.5 volts and it never gets there! Any ideas?
